Just last year I made a decision that since changed my life completely. I decided that it was finally time for me to live a healthier life. That meant getting off the internet for a bit each day to exercise and eating less bad foods. Of course, I had tried this before, but would always fail. I would procrastinate and end up not working out. Due to my schedule I would not prepare and end up going to fast food restaurants. This past year though, I did it, and I am still doing it all thanks to the internet.

No, the internet did not perform some amazing magic trick to get me healthy, but the tools that are offered online made it really easy for me to keep track of all that I was putting into my body and the workouts that I was doing. Eventually, tracking my exercises and my foods motivated me to move more and eat healthier. Then the pounds came off, I started getting better sleep, I felt alive like I had never felt before. It was truly amazing the transformation that I was going through.

I know there are so many internet lovers like myself out there who could stand to live a life that is healthier, and you owe to yourself to do it. Here are some of the best online tools out there. Some I have used personally and others are tools and apps my friends swear by.

Weight Watchers Online – Many people are turned off by the idea that they have to go to weekly meetings on Weight Watchers, but that is a thing of the past. For those who are motivated enough, they offer online only services that let you track your food points and your exercise.

MyFitnessPal – Head over to myfitnesspal.com to check it out. This tool gives you a caloric goal for each day based on your current stats and your goals. Their database is full of the foods you eat, and it is easy to add a new food or even recipes if you would like. Tracking exercise is also a perk to this service, and it is all free.

Nike+ – This is an app that you use for running. Hit the road with the GPS to track your time, distance and more. Your Facebook friends can even chime in and cheer you on.

Stephen Wolfram is the creator of Mathematica. In the following video clip from TEDTalks, Wolfram outlines his quest to make all human knowledge computational. Computational knowledge is that which is able to be searched, processed and manipulated in various ways. Here, he discusses how a program begins with a very simple pattern, then gradually becomes complex due to subtle variances. Also the founder of the search engine Wolfram Alpha, his ultimate goal is nothing simple: he aspires to model and explain the physics underlying the universe.

If you are unfamiliar with TED, it is self-described as a non profit dedicated to ideas that are worth spreading, and attracts the world’s most brilliant minds. It is a great place to read inspiring information about where this world could be heading. At TED, the future looks brighter and there is hope for greater humanity. Check it out. You’ll be glad you did.

If you use the Internet at all, then you’ll not have missed the fact that every other paragraph you read is about i – something. i Mac, i Pod, and i Pad are second only to i Phone when it comes to all those i devices. The modern Macintosh has come a long way from its humble beginnings back in 1984 — but so has the lowly PC that is powered by Microsoft Windows — and the evolution has been televised.

Each side of the debate as to which operating system is superior has some valid points, but among Mac users, their OS of choice enjoys a cult-like status and devotion seemingly unmatched by that of their Windows using counterparts. Naturally, Mac and PC users tend to look at themselves differently in a variety of ways. The following infographic explores some of the ways in which PC and Mac users self-identify about everything from style of dress to what kind of french fries they prefer. Are you a Mac or PC user, and do you generally agree or disagree with the following information? Enjoy!

If you use a Mac or a PC, then you probably either own a business or are employed by one. Business security services are an essential investment that can help protect your company assets and your most valuable resource: people. i Mac users tend to be less concerned with security on their computers, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need a good system for the company.

Yahoo yahoo Mail yesterday was down for thousands of users for an extended period of time. According to the online giant, its services are now fully operational again after the outage. Estimates put the outage at lasting somewhere longer than 24 hours, with users who attempted to log in receiving the following error message: ”page you requested was not found.” Some log in attempts resulted in a “connection refused” message from the site. People who had been trying to load the mail service through Yahoo’s QuickView service received the message that QuickView could not “connect to your mail server.” This set off a lot of people’s mental alarm security in a big way.

This outage seemed to affect users in all parts of the world. With a global failure of such epic proportions, many Twitter users around the globe began flooding the Internet with tweets saying that they were unable to connect to the service. Many people were pretty angry about it all. The Tweets were not kind, with some people posting “Yahoo mail is down,” while others complained that “Yahoo mail is a joke,” or “why is yahoo mail so lame?” Obviously, Yahoo will have some PR damage control to work up over the next several days.

Despite its global reach, the outage was still not universal. People in several high profile corporations were able to access the mail service with no trouble, while other individual users were unaffected. This was still a really bad situation to land in as a giant Internet company like Yahoo, now facing competition from Google on almost every front. No one can afford to be complacent when Google is taking over the entire Internet with a slew of services like Mail, Docs, Apps, Chrome OS, Chrome Web Browser, Gmail, the Android mobile OS, and now Google+ (which is giving Facebook a run for it’s money.)

Google+ hit the Internet only a few weeks ago, yet as of today, over 10 million users are registered – and it’s not even open to the public yet. Remember the early days of Gmail, when you had to have an invitation before you could sign up? It’s just the same right now with Google+, but don’t expect the public unveiling to take as long as Gmail did. Google+ is not the first social networking attempt by Google, but it is certainly the best. Remember Google Wave? If you do, just forget it! Everything you thought you knew about the way Google was going to play a role in social networking is wrong. It’s time to learn Google+.

The first thing you should know about Google+ is that it’s not another Facebook. The concept may seem similar on the surface, but it it actually something quite different. For example, Google has built-in privacy customizations that should forever put to rest the privacy concerns raised by Google Buzz.

Unlike Facebook, with Google+ you can organize your contacts into circles with names and purposes of your choice: some people will go in Family, others Friends, and maybe some in Whatever or Kind of Nice, etc… and the nice thing is, you don’t have to get someone’s approval to add him or her to your circles. You can add anyone you like, and they can also add you. You can also block individuals if you feel you need to.

Google intends to crack down on creepy Web stalkers by requiring that everyone who uses the new social network use his or her real name and identity. People caught using handles or nicknames will be faced with the terrible reality that their entire Google services have been deleted. That’s right, if you break Google’s rules, your email, docs, +account, calendars, and other services will be locked down and you will be shut out.

There is no real equivalent to the Facebook “wall” in Google+. Meaning, you can’t just post something to someone else’s wall (on Google+, simply called your profile.) But, you can add comments to posts made by people in your circles, and they can add to yours. You can also privately share with individuals or circles, or with your entire groups of contacts all at once.

Everyone knows someone that plays fantasy sports. The term itself seems like an oxymoron- usually the type of kids who grew up playing fantasy games shied away from any sort of athletic activity! However, the two are not incongruous. Fantasy sports are simply a way for sports fans to take a more active role in their favorite professional sports by pretending to take control and manage their own team. Sure, it’s a lot like grown ups playing dungeons and dragons, except this time it’s called “linebackers and point guards”. Still, there is a lot of fun to be had in playing fantasy sports.

This is because of the wonderful invention of the internet. Before the internet came of age players used to have to track their stats by hand, and write everything down in order to determine who was leading their fantasy league, and who was trailing behind in last place. Today, their are many different websites that are designed to do all that hard work for you, making it even easier to be a lazy couch potato and still feel like an active athletics fan!

Fantasy sports can be a great way to bond as friends or family, as it allows everyone to embrace their competitive edge, while at the same time ultimately whether you win or lose means nothing (unless you ask my uncle, who is still holding onto his victory from the 2008 football season…). Some leagues choose to make a wager on the season, and some obsessed fans will go as far as to buy players from one another, but for the more normal sports fans out their, a friendly game will do just fine.

Managing your own team in a fantasy league is also a great way to get to know a sport. Have you ever been sitting around a house party with a bunch of your friends and they start talking about the lakers game from that night? Or maybe you’re over at your buddies house for the football game and subsequent BBQ on a Sunday afternoon and all of a sudden everyone gets excited when a certain player takes the field? And maybe while either of these things are happening, you are sitting quietly in the back just praying no one asks you what you think because you have no idea what happened in the lakers game or who that mystery halfback is? Fear not! Their is a cure that will preserve your manhood. Simply, join a fantasy league! Doing so will provide you with a chance to study and obsess over the daily performance of various athletes to the point where you may not know the last time you took a shower, but you certainly know the exact performance of the entire lakers team last night, as well as the college highlights for the rookie phenom halfback about to take his first professional handoff.

So get out there and into the game! You’ve got nothing to lose, but and a head full of mindless statistics to gain!!

Cable TV, Internet and digital phone service have won considerable acknowledgement. Numerous commercial companies offer connection to these services (either separately or with one bundle). At the present time, cable TV, Internet and digital phone are used to establish a reliable source of information and maintain a connection to electronic mass media resources.

Cable TV, Internet and digital phone are known to be leaders on the market. Companies which offer this type of electronic service use modern technologies and up-to-date equipment with the purpose of providing high quality service at affordable prices. As a result, subscribers obtain quality TV, Internet and digital phone signals at certain fees which were confirmed previously.

Transmission of signals providing TV channels, Internet and/or phone is possible after a cable has been installed. Potential clients of cable companies are offered: a wide choice of TV channels; stable Internet traffic and reliable telecommunication. It is important to note that there is no necessity to install additional equipment. As a matter of fact, cable TV, Internet and digital phone options enjoy immense popularity due to supreme quality of the transmitted signals and a great variety of channels suitable for all ages and classes of watchers.
Cables guarantee high quality of receiving signal at any time of day (business time, night time etc.).

It must be mentioned that the intensity of cable TV and Internet signals is guaranteed to be stable at all times with no regard on such factors as: weather conditions (rain, snow, thunderstorms have no effect on coated cables); proximity to electric wires that cause interferences with direct signals; physical obstacles (real estate objects, trees, mountains, autos, pedestrians and a lot of others) etc. The entire complex of factors that influence conventional TV aerials exercises no effect on cable signals. The main purpose of having a cable installed is to be independent from interferences; the signal is broadcast not in the atmosphere, but with the help of a cable – it ensures absence of signal’s distortion, its weakening and/or other unwanted consequences.

Cable TV does not involve a necessity to purchase supplementary technical items, such as: expensive antennas and convectors; wires and other accessories. There is no need to select a place to install an antenna with direct visibility to a local TV tower (a procedure that can be rather difficult to do in a big city).

Individuals who made a decision to have cable TV, Internet and/or phone installed in their residential (and/or office) areas are invited to: find an appropriate service on the Internet; make an order online; contact a representative in order to obtain common information etc. Cable companies present available packages of channels, such as: entertainment (films, music etc.); educational (history, documentary etc.) and offers other options to select from.

Payment for this service can be done with the help of any method offered by up-to-date technologies, among them being: direct banking/postal transactions; debit/credit card online payment; paypal transfer; paying with pay port machines (available practically at all public places) etc.

A recipe book at your left and a laptop opened to your favorite search engine on the right. You are on Step Five of the recipe when you stop at the word ‘fold’. The instructions say fold the mixture for 15 minutes. Does it mean like paper? No, that would not work. With your hands coated in flour, you try unskillfully to look for the definition at the back of the book. Then, remembering the book is not that helpful to a newbie baker. Only one solution left, the laptop. Again, your flour-covered hands are in the way. Sigh. Now if only your computer could search for you, just by speaking to it. Yes, technology has step up voice recognition software to that level. Not where I can just order a cheesecake from the kitchen and have one in a hour. I can dream, yes I can.

In a quest to make life easier, Google launched Voice Search for the Desktop. If a Android or other smartphone owned by you has the Google App installed this feature is not new. Google Voice Search on a mobile phone enabled anyone to speak their search term into the receiver and the results appear in seconds. The Google voice recognition team perfected the process to use on personal computer (PC). Do not start typing in the company’s search engine URL yet. There is a catch with any new adapted technology. Only the latest version of Google Chrome and a PC with a built in or attached microphone can execute this new feature. Hey, I feel your pain. Chrome is not your favorite web browser. As your eyes roll around in you head, an independent technician with a love for Mozilla Firefox is finding a solution.

Until then, you should download the last version of Chrome from Google. Go ahead. I know you are reading this page off Mozilla Firefox. If you are using Internet Explorer, shame on you. Once the installation is done, you will be looking at the Welcome Page, type in google.com if the Google Homepage is not shown. In the search field, a little microphone is on the right. Click it and a dialog bubble appears. Speak any phrase to test out the search feature, as you do the voice gauge highlights each green square. A high voice will bring the bars farther to the right; left for a low voice. When the spinning gauge appears in the dialog bubble, the search has started. Then your results will display. The bad news is voice search is available is US English currently. Push the knife in deeper into my back Google I cannot feel it.

Explore the Voice Search for yourself. Makes finding the spelling for a hard word quicker and easier. Have a really, long query just talk to search; it will not judge what you search. Always wanted to talk to your computer, this is your chance to with a valid excuse. Now, go search the meaning of fold in cooking. What are you cooking anyway?
